The overwhelming stories of life altering accidents and untimely deaths continue to dominate Canadian news as families are forced to accept the unimaginable. Ornge, as Canada’s leader in transport medicine, is intimately familiar with the often devastating after effects of accidents and has recognized the need to create a distinct organization dedicated to risk management and the reduction of injury among youth.

The need for more proactive healthcare programs that focus on youth injury prevention is evident. How we establish and implement these programs and outreach to our youth is the real challenge. J Smarts is our call to action as Ornge strives to turn acceptance into prevention.

Given Ornge’s firsthand experience in handling youth injuries, its medical and educational expertise, combined with its values of compassion, collaboration and innovation, the decision to create a youth-focused injury prevention program has been the logical extension of its core activities.

The Ornge Foundation has been established to support and promote improved patient care and encourage training of healthcare providers in transport medicine, emergency preparedness and disaster relief medicine.

In addition, the Ornge Foundation is proud to support J Smarts to enable this program to grow through relationship building and collaboration within the corporate community and the community at large. This support enables J Smarts to remain on the frontier of injury prevention amongst youth and to ensure the continued advancement in research and development in the area of risk management.
